08 Calm Uncertainty | Michael

It was only a month into the Stay at Home order, and I would have periodic text/phone calls with my old friend, Michael. He’s a nurse at Mayo Clinic, down in Rochester, Minnesota. He’s one of the chillest, kindest men I’ve known since I was a teenage girl. We went to the same church and were confirmed together. He’s the ultimate listener. He must be spectacular at his job.

I asked what was happening, knowing little about how the medical world works, and he patiently shared his own uncertainty. This oddly made more more at ease, knowing that the unknown is what we are preparing for. Preparedness is what we need, in beds, PPE, and resources. Yet, the complications of shutting down the economy is the part we can’t really seem to sift through.

Michael’s voice soothed me. That was all I needed at that point.
